A Day of Shocks for YCP: Vijayasai Reddy and Ayodhya Ramireddy Exit Politics, Leaving Party in Crisis

In a day of major setbacks for the YSR Congress Party (YCP), two senior leaders—Rajya Sabha MPs Vijayasai Reddy and Ayodhya Ramireddy—have announced their retirement from politics. This unexpected development has left political circles in Andhra Pradesh buzzing, raising serious questions about the future of the party, which is already grappling with challenges after its poor performance in the recent 2024 elections.

Earlier in the day, Vijayasai Reddy shocked everyone by announcing his resignation from his Rajya Sabha membership, stating that he was stepping away from politics entirely. In his heartfelt tweet, Vijayasai emphasized that his decision was personal and free of any external pressure. He expressed gratitude to the YS family for their trust over the years and thanked Jagan Mohan Reddy for giving him the opportunity to serve as a Rajya Sabha member twice.

Adding to the blow, another senior YCP leader, Ayodhya Ramireddy, also announced his retirement from politics just hours later. While Ayodhya Ramireddy has not elaborated on the reasons behind his decision, his announcement comes at a time when the party is already facing a leadership crisis and dwindling public support.

These back-to-back resignations come on the heels of YCP’s disastrous performance in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, where the party managed to secure only 11 out of 175 seats—a massive fall from their earlier dominance. With opposition parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena gaining ground, YCP is in dire need of strong leadership and direction.

Vijayasai Reddy and Ayodhya Ramireddy have both played crucial roles in YCP’s journey. Vijayasai, a close confidant of Jagan, served as the national general secretary and was instrumental in building bridges between the state and central governments. Ayodhya Ramireddy, a respected leader within the party, also brought stability and experience to the table. Their sudden departure leaves a significant void in the party’s leadership at a time when it can least afford it.

The timing of these resignations couldn’t be worse for Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is already under immense pressure to rebuild his party after the electoral debacle. With public dissatisfaction growing and internal cracks now visible, these retirements could further destabilize the party.

As YCP struggles to recover from its defeat, these developments raise crucial questions: Is the party heading toward a deeper crisis? Will Jagan be able to regroup and bring in new leadership to stabilize the party? Or will these resignations mark the beginning of the end for YCP’s dominance in Andhra Pradesh politics?

One thing is certain—YSRCP is at a crossroads, and its next steps will determine whether it can survive the current storm or fade into political irrelevance.
