The Rise of “Open Challenges” in Tollywood: A Risky Trend Among Actors

A new trend seems to be catching fire in Tollywood, actors throwing open challenges to audiences at pre-release events. What started as a confident statement of belief in one’s work is slowly turning into a double-edged sword.
It began with Nani during the Court pre-release event, where he boldly declared, “Don’t watch my next film if you don’t like this one.” Luckily for him, the challenge paid off, Court turned out to be a solid success, earning praise for its engaging story and performances.
However, when Priyadarshi Pulikonda repeated the move at the Mithramandali pre-release event, things didn’t go as planned. He said that if audiences didn’t enjoy Mithramandali, they shouldn’t watch any of his future films. Unfortunately, the film failed to impress both critics and audiences, and the challenge backfired completely.
Now, veteran actor Rajendra Prasad has stepped into the same territory. At the Mass Jathara pre-release event, he made a striking declaration that he would quit the film industry if audiences weren’t “shocked” after watching the film. The statement has drawn both curiosity and concern, as fans eagerly await whether the movie will live up to his bold promise.
These “open challenges” may create buzz before release, but they also raise the stakes dramatically. While confidence in one’s craft is admirable, Tollywood’s growing trend of daring declarations proves that sometimes, words can make or break a movie even before it hits the screens.
