James Cameron wants to participate in the shooting of Varanasi
RRR brought SS Rajamouli global fame and earned praise from some of the world’s greatest filmmakers, including James Cameron. Deeply impressed by Rajamouli’s work in RRR, Cameron personally congratulated him when they met during the Academy Awards ceremony.
Recently, Rajamouli interviewed James Cameron as part of the promotions for Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in the Avatar franchise. The in-depth conversation, which lasted over 30 minutes, covered several filmmaking topics such as storytelling, the use of AI in cinema, VFX costs, and the future of big-screen experiences.
Rajamouli is currently working on Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu. During the discussion, Cameron expressed his desire to visit the sets and witness Rajamouli’s filmmaking process firsthand. Rajamouli revealed that the project has already been in development for a year and will take another seven to eight months to complete filming. Hearing this, Cameron said he would like to visit the sets during that period.
Taking it a step further, James Cameron told Rajamouli that he doesn’t just want to observe but actually participate in the shoot. He said he would love to work on set, handle a camera, and even be involved in filming a second unit when he visits Hyderabad in the coming months.
