Ravi Teja’s Sankranthi Gamble Raises Questions After Ram Pothineni Parallel
Andhra King Taluka, starring Ram Pothineni, released on November 17 with high expectations. Ram believed the film would deliver the long-awaited success in his career. While it received positive critical feedback, the film failed to pull audiences to theatres, a result many attributed to the impact of his previous outings.
At present, Ravi Teja finds himself in a somewhat similar situation, with audience turnout for his recent films showing a visible dip. He is now set to arrive with Bharta Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi, a family entertainer slated for a Sankranthi release. The challenge, however, is significant, as the film will clash with major releases like Prabhas’ The Raja Saab and Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu.
At a press meet held today, the producer revealed that Ravi Teja has not taken any remuneration so far, with his sole condition being a Sankranthi release. Director Kishore Tirumala also shared that Ravi Teja consciously avoided using his popular “Mass Maharaja” tag, wanting to clearly position the film as a family entertainer rather than a mass film.
Interestingly, Ram Pothineni had adopted a similar strategy before Andhra King Taluka. He did not take upfront remuneration, opted instead for the Krishna and Guntur area rights, and replaced his “Ustaad” tag with “Energetic Star.” Despite these decisions, the film did not achieve the expected commercial success.
With Ravi Teja now following a comparable path, the big question remains: will this calculated Sankranthi move pay off amid heavy competition, or will history repeat itself? Only time will tell.
