Why Akhanda 2 Got Blocked: The Real Story Behind the Court Case

The postponement of Akhanda 2 has nothing to do with production issues or new financial problems. According to a report, The real reason goes back 14 years to Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu. Eros International and 14 Reels Entertainment had a financial agreement during that film, which later turned into a dispute. In 2019, an arbitration tribunal ordered 14 Reels to pay ₹11.23 crore plus interest and hand over Dookudu’s title documents. The producers appealed in multiple courts, but all appeals up to the Supreme Court were dismissed, and no payment was ever made.

In 2025, when Eros noticed that Akhanda 2 was being released by 14 Reels Plus LLP, they approached the Madras High Court. A Single Judge initially refused to block the film, saying Section 9 couldn’t be used this way and the claim was delayed. But Eros appealed again, and on December 3, the Division Bench reversed the earlier decision and officially blocked the release. The court also restrained theatres, OTT platforms, and satellite channels from screening the film unless the full dues were cleared.

As of December 5, 2025, the case is still being heard. Akhanda 2 has become collateral damage in an old dispute related to Dookudu, and the film can only release if the producers settle the long-pending payment or convince the court to lift the order.
